Witness a transformation from a traditional curvy Roman End pool to a straight-lined Modernistic design
This client absolutely hated the rounded Roman End design of the pool at their newly purchased home.
They also didn't like the dated "safety coping" at all.
Even the radius wedding cake steps, usually an upgrade feature, came nowhere near their aesthetic goals.
The pool/spa combo design with a 12 inch spillway did not help matters. These clients were absolutely appalled by the look of their pool. This after a massive renovation of the house to a very clean and modern design.
So off to work we went. Firstly, eliminating the offending Roman Ends. This was a lot of work, but the client wanted nothing to do with the round Roman Ends.
Although we had proposed alternate designs that would have cost much less and appear rectangular, the pool would retain some of its round elements. This client was steadfast in their desire for straight lines and went for the more challenging (and expensive) option.
Challenge accepted.
Faced with the costly prospect of completely demolishing and rebuilding the spa, we implemented a simple redesign of the bond beam. This accomplished the task of making it appear rectangular, at a fraction of the cost.
We redesigned the common wall, from a 12 inch spillway to a 12 foot infinity edge. A distinctively more modern look.
We have achieved modern and rectangular. And most importantly, the client was very pleased with the outcome.
We added a 12 foot bench for easy entry from the spa and exit from the deep end of the pool.
The steps were remodeled into a square wedding cake design with an 8 foot sundeck on the top step.
The finish is Diamond Brite in French Gray. The tiles are 1"x2" glass in a dark gray.
The spa design resulted in a large "sundeck" style top step, which is very convenient and looks great.
The coping is a Deep Blue sandblasted marble tread.
The effect is much like an infinity edge.
We like the new vanishing look much more than the little spillway that preceded it. As do the clients.
The French Gray Diamond Brite finish provides a gorgeous and inviting deep blue.
Pending a new patio to match the pool coping, the client's backyard is well on its way to a radically updated look.
